Fire update before you plan your week: the Pocket Fire north of Sedona is now 100 percent contained at 27,393 acres, and Sedona is open for business as usual, with SR 89A running normally between Sedona and Interstate 17. A handful of closures remain in place while crews finish mop up. Bear Sign, David Miller, Dry Creek, HS Canyon, Secret Canyon, and West Fork trails are closed, along with the Banjo Bill and Bootlegger picnic sites, Call of the Canyon, and Manzanita Campground. The Oak Creek swim area at Slide Rock State Park is also closed until October 1 due to flooding and debris flow risk, though the park itself remains open by vehicle. For daily updates, check the Coconino National Forest incident page.
August in Sedona means warm days, monsoon clouds building over the buttes, and a calendar full of gallery openings, sound healing sessions, and the Sedona International Film Festival’s summer premiere lineup. This week’s events in Sedona August 7 through August 13 run from First Friday gallery receptions and a Tom Petty tribute concert to farmers market Sundays and Verde Valley favorites in Cottonwood and Camp Verde. Whether you’re chasing live music, a sunrise hike, or an evening under the stars, there’s a full week ahead.

Sedona’s monthly gallery walk brings extended hours, artist receptions, and wine tastings across Tlaquepaque and Uptown, including Mountain Trails Gallery’s Summer Group Show reception featuring landscapes, portraits, and figurative paintings inspired by the Grand Canyon and Sedona’s red rock trails. Park once at Tlaquepaque and walk the whole village rather than driving between stops.
Indoor Line Dancing at Blazin’ M Ranch | 5:30 to 8:30 PM | Blazin’ M Ranch, 1875 Mabery Ranch Rd, Cottonwood | $20, includes one drink. A beginner-friendly line dance lesson runs from 6:00 to 7:00 PM followed by open dancing with a DJ until 8:30, with wing, pretzel, and draft beer specials all night. No partner or experience needed. Reserve ahead at (928) 634-0334, since Friday nights fill up in summer.
Sound Healing Ceremony | 6:00 to 7:30 PM | Shine Sedona, 162 D Coffee Pot Drive, Sedona | Price not listed. This multisensory journey blends aromatherapy, crystals, guided visualization, and sound vibration from vocal tones, drums, and seven native flutes tuned to the body’s chakras. Arrive a few minutes early to settle in, since the room is kept dim and quiet once the session begins.
Sky Rock Inn Live Music | 6:00 to 9:00 PM | Sky Rock Inn, 1200 SR 89A, Sedona | Price not listed. Live performers play against red rock sunset views on the patio, a good low-key option for dinner and a show without a big production. Call ahead for a patio table if you want the best sunset sightline.
‘Of Color and Ink’ Film Premiere | Friday 6:30 PM (also Saturday 3:30 PM) | Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. This documentary follows 20th century Chinese painter Chang Dai-chien through 30 years of exile across South America, Europe, and the United States. Filmmaker Weimin Zhang hosts a Q&A after both screenings, so plan to stay a bit later than the runtime suggests.
‘The Next Chapter’ Film Premiere | Friday 7:00 PM (also Saturday 6:30 PM, Sunday 3:30 PM) | Mary D. Fisher Theatre, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. Opening night includes a live Zoom Q&A with Wright and Dr. Heidi J. Dalzell. Buy tickets online in advance, since opening nights at the festival tend to sell out.

Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. This touring tribute act runs through “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” and more in an authentic Man in Black set. It’s a short drive from Sedona down 89A, so plan for about 25 minutes each way.
Saturday, August 8
Guided Red Rock Hike | 7:00 to 9:30 AM | Coconino National Forest, trailhead given at registration | Price not listed. A local guide leads a small group through Sedona’s geology, pointing out desert flora and rock formations along the way. Preregistration closes 24 hours ahead at downdogsedona.com/calendar, and you’ll want water, sunscreen, and a hat before the desert heat sets in.
Tom Petty Tribute Concert featuring Breakdown | 6:30 to 8:00 PM | Sedona Performing Arts Center, 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Rd, Sedona | $48 to $54. National touring tribute band Breakdown runs through Tom Petty’s catalog for a full theater show, not a bar gig. Buy tickets online ahead of time, since the Performing Arts Center has limited walk-up seating.
Lion’s Gate Sound Healing Journey, Cacao Ceremony | 6:00 to 8:00 PM | 162 Coffee Pot Dr, Unit D, Sedona | $120.29. This portal ceremony pairs ceremonial cacao with light and sound healing timed to the Lion’s Gate portal date. Space is limited for these ceremony-style events, so reserve your spot before Saturday.
Wild Inside: The Story of Flaco the Owl | 7:00 PM | Sedona International Film Festival & Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | Price not listed. Northern Arizona Audubon partners with the film festival to screen this award-winning documentary about the Eurasian eagle owl who escaped New York’s Central Park Zoo and captured hearts nationwide. Tickets go through the film festival’s site, and this one tends to draw families.
Night Sky Market | 5:00 to 9:00 PM | Camp Verde | Price not listed, vendor items priced individually. This family-friendly evening market brings live musicians, food trucks, artists, home decor, and small-business vendors together under the Verde Valley sky. It’s an easy pairing with dinner in Camp Verde before heading back up 89A.
Sunday, August 9
Sedona Community Farmers Market | 8:00 AM to Noon | Wells Fargo Bank parking lot, 2201 W SR 89A, West Sedona | Free entry. Journey Beyond Time: Past Life Regression Hypnotherapy | 2:00 to 4:00 PM | Ultimate Light Mission, Sedona | $65. This guided hypnosis session explores past-life memory and deeper self-awareness in a small group setting. Wear comfortable clothing, since much of the session is spent reclined and relaxed.
Monday, August 10
‘In the Company of Wolves’ Film Premiere | 3:00 PM | Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. Jeff Bridges narrates this documentary on American history told through the journeys of wolves and other wildlife. It’s a matinee slot, so it pairs well with an early dinner reservation after.
‘Couture’ Film Premiere | 3:30 PM | Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. Angelina Jolie’s Paris Fashion Week drama continues its Northern Arizona premiere run. Check the festival box office for same-day availability since Monday matinees run smaller crowds.
Monday is otherwise a quieter day on the calendar, which makes it a good time to get outdoors before the crowds. With West Fork closed for fire recovery, head to Cathedral Rock or Bell Rock instead, or drive out to Old Town Cottonwood for a slower afternoon of wine tasting and antique shops along Main Street.
Tuesday, August 11
‘In the Company of Wolves’ Film Premiere | 4:00 PM | Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. The wolf documentary’s Tuesday matinee is a solid pick if you’re easing into the evening slowly. Arrive 15 minutes early, since the festival’s smaller theater seats fill for popular titles.
‘Couture’ Film Premiere | 7:00 PM | Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres, 2030 W SR 89A, Sedona | $12 general, $9 Film Festival members. Tuesday’s showtime moves to evening, making it an easy after-work option. Grab dinner Uptown beforehand since the theater is right off 89A.
If films aren’t your speed, Tuesday is a good night for a Verde Valley detour. Jerome’s galleries and saloons stay open into the evening, and the winding drive up Cleopatra Hill is worth the trip on its own.
Wednesday, August 12
Under the Stars | 5:30 to 8:30 PM | Outbound Sedona, 1752 SR 179, Sedona | Free community event. This weekly community circle welcomes drums, shakers, acoustic instruments, and healing bowls for an evening of improvisational rhythm. Thursday, August 13

This is the last scheduled screening of Couture for the week, so it’s your final chance to catch it at this showtime. Check the festival site in case a later add-on screening gets added closer to the date.
Thursday’s lineup is lighter, so it’s a good night to catch live music without a ticket. Vino Di Sedona is open with live music and happy hour specials from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, an easy, no-reservation way to close out the week.
